With our collection of Public Domain pictures, you don’t need to worry about expensive licensing fees or complex legal procedures pertaining to copyright - take what you need and use it how you want! For more info, you can read our license page that’s linked in the footer.

What does it mean for an image to be public domain?

When describing images in terms of intellectual property - the term “public domain” refers to that image being free to use because the person who took the photo has given up their copyright / property rights. We took these photos so that we could dedicate them to the public (aka you!) so that they can be used in any circumstance - which makes our photos perfect for anything you might be working on.

Maybe you’re a designer building a website or an entrepreneur using the images for a marketing project - the flexibility for use of public domain images allows you to focus on other aspects of your project. Use them in any way you see fit! Images can be altered in any way - you’re welcome to add text and filters or combine with other images - feel free to get creative!

Need a background for your online store? Maybe use a stunning landscape! Need an awesome action shot for a billboard? You can do that too! However you want to use our images - we’ve got you covered.

What attribution is required for public domain images?

Photographs and images in our database require no attribution. You’re free to use the images however you’d like. Our photographers have waived their copyright to the image - which means you can adapt and use them for commercial purposes without attributing the original author or source.

Although the images don’t legally require attribution - it’s always nice for a photographer to be credited for their work. If you use an image from Burst, feel free to attribute credit in the form of a link to the original photo page and a credit to the photographer. You can check out our Terms of Service for more info on ways to give them credit if you’d like.
